Modern Health Care System found to be the Leading Cause of Death in USA

Until recently the third leading cause of death in the US was correctly prescribed medical therapies. But the latest studies show something more ominous. While the US has the world’s best healthcare system for trauma and injury, our blind faith in drugs, surgery, and procedures for chronic disease may be unfounded. Our conventional medical system is, in fact, the LEADING cause of death in this country. Not heart disease, not cancer--doctors. In all fairness, doctors themselves are not to blame for all of this. The entire modern health care system, however, is responsible for allowing, even promulgating, so many unnecessary procedures, drugs and mishaps. This illustrates precisely why the system is so desperately in need of change, and why facilitating this change is going to be our challenge in the future. Our purpose here is to help turn the tide and stay healthy in spite of our present sickness care industrial complex. So if you want to not become a statistic use what you learn here from this newsletter to enable yourself to not need a hospital and only go to your doctor to take your annual exam and find out how healthy you really are.


Notice in the tables below that the main causes of death are adverse drug reactions, bedsores and malnutrition. Good nutrition can easily prevent the last two of those causes of death. All we have to do is readjust our nutritional mindset and teach people what they need to eat to prevent hundreds of thousands of deaths each year just from those two causes.


The information below is actually incomplete as the World Health Organization last year attributed 1.5 million American deaths to a combination of correctly and incorrectly prescribed medications and therapies.

A definitive review and close reading of medical peer-review journals, and government health statistics shows that American medicine frequently causes more harm than good. The number of people having in-hospital, adverse drug reactions (ADR) to prescribed medicine is 2.2 million. 1 Dr. Richard Besser, of the CDC, in 1995, said the number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections was 20 million. It is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States. The 2001 heart disease annual death rate is 699,697; the annual cancer death rate, 553,251. 5

We could have an even higher death rate by using Dr. Lucien Leape's 1997 medical and drug error rate of 3 million. 14 Multiplied by the fatality rate of 14 percent (that Leape used in 1994 16 we arrive at an annual death rate of 420,000 for drug errors and medical errors combined. If we put this number in place of Lazorou's 106,000 drug errors and the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) 98,000 medical errors, we could add another 216,000 deaths making a total of 999,936 deaths annually.

Why are Americans sicker than most of the World?

Middle-aged white Americans are considerably less healthy than their equivalents in England according to a study in the Journal of the AMA.

Americans have a rate of diabetes, heart disease, strokes, lung disease and cancer that is higher despite the fact that U.S. health care spending is twice that of England on a per-citizen basis.

I plan to not only inform you of the problems but this blog will also let you know what you can do about these shocking results from healthcare studies. This information is considered stunning by health care experts, although it coincides with the previously noted fact that U.S. life expectancy is fairly low among industrialized nations. The precise reasons for the health gap were not determined by the study.

Americans had twice the rate of diabetes as the English, and almost twice the rate of cancer. The health of rich Americans was similar to the health of lowest-income British citizens.

We Americans have the world's best quality trauma and emergency care. Surgical techniques are refined to a fine art like nowhere else in the world. But when it comes to chronic health care, why are we rated #72 in our quality of health by the world health organization and in worse condition than our friends in England? We Americans spend way more on our healthcare system than any other country in the world. The average American lifespan has decreased compared to that of other developed countries.

The great healthcare experts are mystified at all this. Those experts haven’t been paying attention. Americans are manipulated and deceived by drug companies, food companies, the big media and all sorts of folks who look only at their bank account with no concern for what their products will do to their customers. The cigarette companies are no longer the only ones who endanger their customers with their products for monetary gain. Perhaps the tobacco companies' deception tactics were brought over when they bought the country's largest food manufacturers in an attempt to diversify from the dying cigarette industry.

However, you, dear readers, are not so easily deceived, because you are actively finding out what you need to stay healthy that is why you have chosen to subscribe to this newsletter.

Luckily we can change the course of American health by making some positive changes in our habits of eating and drinking.

Okay, lets look at the obvious---We depend way too heavily on fast food and snack food. The art of cooking from fresh ingredients is something that we need to move back into. While I know life is busy and time is short for all of us, we need to know what to demand of those who prepare food for us. Some of the fast food folks are responding to our pressing health concerns. Did you notice that Wendy’s has gone to frying food in healthier oils that are free of transfats? Also they have discontinued the “biggie” size of things. Wendy’s, of course seem to have always been at the start of more healthy trends. If you haven’t watched the movie “Supersize Me” which documents the damaging health effects of eating every meal at another certain well known clown’s fast burger chain for thirty days. Be sure to check out that movie if you doubt anything I am saying.

Let me make a suggestion when you must go to that fast burger place, and we all have to from time to time. (And yes, I go about once per month) Don't get that whopper or Big Mac or double or triple decker. Go back to basics. The burger that put all these fast food outlets on the map is a regular hamburger that contains meat, bread, pickle, onion, ketchup and mustard. This one item without the unhealthy plastic cheese option is probably the healthiest item on their menu. Get fries if you must but make it a small one and you can get out of there without paying a major price in deterioration of your health. Remember, besides possible transfats, the fries just end up pure glucose, sugar once you eat them. If you really must have two meat patties, remember that you are inviting bone density problems down the line the more protein-centered your diet is. No I am not a vegetarian but balance in favor of plant foods is the wisest way to eat.

If you eat more of the healthy things and cut back on the unhealthy the improvement to your health will be substantial. It is not necessary to go on some dreary draconian diet to be healthy and please don’t follow trends pushed in the media. And PLEASE--- absolutely do not go no-fat or low-fat. They now think that only increases your chances of developing old age brain malfunction (But how that works is another issue coming soon.) Also do not use carb blockers, because they block all carbs, good and bad. Your body needs several carbohydrates to live. One particular set of super carbs found in our foods have been determined to reactivate the immune and repair systems and cause the body to suddenly be able to fight back and improve numerous disease conditions.

We find now that 90% of our food budget goes for processed foods. While these foods are fine in moderation, we need to reverse that ratio---spending any more than 10-15% of our food budget for fast or processed food is downright unhealthy and we are all paying the price for our decisions in the grocery store. Consider this: Try buying more of those items around the outside walls of the grocery store. That is usually where the fresh produce, dairy, cheese, meats, and whole grain breads reside. If it comes in a box it gets closer examination of the list of ingredients so I can avoid transfats, high fructose corn syrup, toxins and other things that I wish to avoid for my own health. Even freezing food lowers nutritional value somewhat.

We all have been told that if we eat a good diet we will be healthy. That is very true but we simply cannot eat enough of the right food with our present food sources. In future issues we will cover being able to get enough of the right nutrients when many of the most important nutrients are missing from most food today.

Also, in future issues we will give you simple logical ideas that you can use to improve your health by eating more of some things, eating less of others. We will try to make you aware of hidden dangers in our food. Avoiding those dangerous toxins alone will make your diet work better to keep you healthy.

Even the tiniest amount of toxin we take into our body must be dealt with by our immune system. The root cause of our exploding levels of all major catastrophic disease is our constant overstressing of the immune system that is supposed to protect us from all disease. Getting enough of the right nutrients will build back the immune system. We can protect ourselves from all the nasties out there if we educate ourselves in what our body needs nutritionally and what we need to avoid to not open ourselves up to health problems.

So don’t feel sorry for yourself because as an American you will be sicker than those in other countries. Instead, you can take the proactive step and aggressively implement the dietary suggestions and other health tips found in the Wellness Secrets Newsletter.

Opt Out of the Flu Pandemic

Sorry this is so long winded, but I do not want anyone here suffering from any flu pandemic like Mexico is doing.

I am not normally promoting stuff here but you folks know me, perhaps like me, and you should trust me enough to know that I am not going to try to sell you something if it does not work and work exceptionally well. Many of you already know I have been into nutrition for years and for the last six years I have been using and referring people to a particular brand of organic, non synthetic nutritional supplements that fly in the face of all the over hyped magic berry juices and other promised "cures" of this and that, which of course do not work.

I am impressed by science, not hype. I am also impressed by results.

I have seen the science, I stay up with what it is doing and it is advancing almost daily. I have seen results in myself and in hundreds of people I got started or have met and who have earnestly told me of good results and often these results are not believable but are undeniable.

I can't say I promote anything that treats, cures, or mitigates any disease. If I did that would be stretching the truth and it would also be illegal and I would be jailed. Technically the only cure there is for the human body is your own immune system. I can say I have seen the immune system and the repair system which it kickstarts make just about any so-called disease crank itself back or go totally away. What do the doctors say at that point? Usually they say, " we must have misdiagnosed." They have so little experience with immune systems that actually work these days....

Well in this day of swine, avian, mutated flu pandemic terror flames being fanned by media of all kinds, it sounds very scary and whether it is something we should really worry about is simply unknown. We do know that there are millions of plastic coffins stored around the country just in case. Well I have opted out of the terror hype.

I have opted out of worry about myself, my family and friends. I and they have been using some nutritional things that build the immune system up to 100%. I have proved to myself that everyone around me can be catching colds or flu or whatever is going around and my immune system just deals with it. In the last six years only twice was I affected by what everyone else was suffering from and my only indication of any problem was needing to blow my nose 3-4 times a day for several days in a row. No misery, no coughing, no sniffles. While years ago my immune system overreacted to just about any dander, pollen, or spores kicking off weeks of misery several times a year, it has not done that for 6 years now.

You see, this all natural nutritional system allows normal function of the immune system so it modulates up and down as needed. Whether it is overactive or underactive, these nutritional molecules allow it to readjust itself to do that. These nutrients should be in our diets and a century ago may have been but they are not to be found today. They must be supplemented from food sources. Just as in vitamins, synthetic versions just don't work.

The most important immune support molecules I am referring to are monosaccharides and there are 8 of them that are important to building up the immune system for normal function. These include mannose, fucose, xylose, galactose and several others that you haven't likely heard about.

You may know some of these: mannose is in fresh or stabilized aloe vera gel, fucose is in seaweed, xylitol is used as a sweetener in some gum and it is the alcohol version of xylose, and galactose is found in milk and dairy products. Put these all together and add the other four in the correct amounts for the body to use optimally and you have the product I use called Ambrotose. It may be also called a glyconutrient complex product but it is the only one out there that works.

Statin Drugs are Dangerous

A new paper cites nearly 900 studies on the adverse effects of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, also called statins, which are a class of drugs widely used to treat high cholesterol. The review provides the most complete picture to date of reported side effects of statins.

Muscle problems are the best known of statin drugs' adverse side effects, but cognitive problems and pain or numbness in the extremities are also widely reported. A spectrum of other problems, ranging from blood glucose elevations to tendon problems, can also occur as side effects.

The paper summarizes powerful evidence that statin-induced injury to the function of the body's energy-producing cells, called mitochondria, underlies many of the adverse effects that occur to patients taking statin drugs. Statins lower levels of coenzyme Q10, a compound central to the processes of making energy within mitochondria and eliminating dangerous compounds called free radicals.

Nutrient deficiency allows viruses a foothold

Why don't we get a cold or flu in summer? They tell us that catching a cold has nothing to do with being cold. It has lots to do with the body making its own antibiotics but these work on viruses where pharmaceutical antibiotics cannot affect a virus at all. These natural disease fighters are called antimicrobial peptides and the body makes them IF....I say ONLY IF we get enough Vitamin D. In summer we get more sunlight which causes the body to make this nutrient. How many other viruses could we be protected from if we got enough nutrition? How about HIV? smallpox? measles? Ebola? hanta? these antimicrobial peptides drill right through the impenetrable virus shell and destroy them. This leads me to wonder something. Since peptides are small molecules that hold amino acids together in a protein chain, could these be manufactured or rather separated out, and concentrated in the lab so that these antimicrobial peptides could be given to plants, animals, and humans to combat every kind of virus. Well that could be the next twenty years of research but I don't want to wait, getting more sunlight gives me more vitamin D and that is what I plan to do. Here is the video that told me about this:

cattle, cowOmega-3 fats are thought to play an important role in reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, obesity and other serious diseases. However, humans are unable to synthesize omega-3 for themselves and must obtain it from meat, fish and dairy products.

Studies have indicated that animal feeds enriched with omega-3 improves the health and fertility of animals, and the nutritional quality of their meat and dairy products. Obese volunteers eating a diet comprising meat and dairy products derived from animals fed with omega-3-enriched linseed (flaxseed) lost 3 kg in three months, and sustained the weight loss five months later. Omega-3 fats are essential for your body and may help reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, cancer, obesity and other chronic diseases.

The study mentioned came from Valorex, a French company that has developed a way of “thermo-extruding” the seeds from the flaxseed plant, and is now marketing them as an additive for cattle feed. According to studies by Valorex, animals fed a diet enriched with their extruded flaxseed had improved health and fertility, and their meat and dairy products contained higher levels of omega-3 fats.

Obese people with diabetes who then ate a diet enriched with the thermo-extruded flaxseed reportedly had a partial loss of abdominal obesity and a reduction in their triglycerides levels.

Next they conducted a trial in which obese volunteers ate meat and dairy products from animals fed the flaxseed-enriched diet, and found they lost over 6.5 pounds in three months, and kept the weight off five months later. Although control volunteers who ate alternative types of diets also lost the same amount of weight, they had gained some of it back by the end of the study.

Valorex’s enriched animal feeds are already in high demand by food manufacturers and farmers in France, and agreements with factories in Germany, Portugal and Switzerland are already underway. For many folks this could be an answer to fighting obesity and chronic disease that the we have been waiting for?

Well, I’m all for adding more omega- 3 fats to your diet, but there is something being overlooked about the source of the omega-3.

Why You Want to Get Your Omega-3 Primarily From Animal, NOT Plant, Sources


There
are three types of omega-3 fats:

• DHA (Docosahexaenoic Acid)
• EPA (Eicosapentaenoic Acid)
• ALA (Alpha-Linolenic Acid)


Most of the health benefits associated with omega-3 fats are linked to the animal-based omega-3 fats EPA and DHA, not the plant-based omega-3 fat ALA. ALA, which is the type of omega-3 found in flaxseed, is converted into EPA and DHA in your body, but only at a very low ratio.

I am convinced that we all need both plant and animal based omega 3 fats but I have seen many people, primarily vegans, that are strongly opposed to eating any animal products, suffer serious health complications from excluding animal based omega-3 fats.

Even if you eat large amounts of ALA, your body can only convert a relatively small amount into EPA and DHA, and only when sufficient enzymes are present.

This does not mean plant-based omega-3 fats are intrinsically harmful or that they should be avoided. Eating meat enriched with omega-3 is likely a healthier option than eating the typical grain-fed beef available in U.S. supermarkets.

In fact, one reason why I recommend choosing grass-fed beef over grain-fed beef is because it contains higher levels of omega-3 fats. The increased levels of omega-3 come from the cattle’s diet of grass, as 60 percent of the fat content of grass is ALA.

It’s important that the grass-fed beef you choose is really finished on grass, as opposed to being shipped to a feedlot and fattened on grain for the last few months.

Why? Because as soon as cattle stop eating grass, they begin to lose the omega-3 stored in their tissues, which is why grain-fed beef typically has only
15-50 percent of the omega-3 that grass-fed beef has. One reason why it’s so important to make sure your beef has higher levels of omega-3 has to do with your ratio of this fat and another called omega-6.

While most people are seriously lacking in omega-3, they are overdoing omega-6, which is found primarily in vegetable oils but also in grain-fed beef. The ideal ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats is 1:1. Today, though, our ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 averages from 20:1 to 50:1!

Research shows that if your ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 exceeds 4:1, you’re at risk for more health problems. This is especially meaningful since grain-fed beef can have ratios that exceed 20:1, whereas grass-fed beef is down around 3:1. That said, most people don’t eat beef every day, and even if you did an average serving of grass-fed beef would provide only around 88.5 mg of omega-3 fat, according to California State University’s College of Agriculture, which on its own is not very much.

How Else Can You Get Omega-3 Fat?


The best source of plant-based omega-3 fats are fresh organic flaxseeds. The key is to buy organic flaxseeds and grind them fresh immediately before you use them. The fats are highly perishable
so it is best to avoid pre-ground seeds or oil as the risk of oxidation of these fats is too high. Refrigerating flax helps avoid oxidation of the fats. Never store them in a warm or hot area. When it comes to choosing between animal-based omega-3 options, the primary options are fish, fish oil, cod liver oil or krill oil.

Fish oil can be a problem if you buy it from drugstores or discount stores because much of it is seriously contaminated with heavy metals like mercury and other pollutants. And cod liver oil is no longer recommended because it can have problematic ratios of vitamins A and D.

I get my omega-3 from two sources and they come highly recommended by doctors I trust. I get Krill oil from Dr. Mercola (mercola.com) and Dr. Steve Nugent, the toxin expert (author of “How to Survive on a Toxic Planet”) suggests Nordic Naturals’ version of fish oil that is the cleanest unpolluted oil to be found. http://www.nordicnaturals.com/en/4/General_Public.
